With more than five decades immersed in the dog world, Sandra Patterson brings a lifetime of passion, experience, and artistry to Buffalo Images.
Sandra’s journey began in 1968 with her first Golden Retriever, Caesar, whose success in obedience trials sparked a lifelong dedication to the breed. The now‑iconic “Buffalo” prefix originated from a simple street name chosen by friends for their pet’s litter — a humble beginning that would go on to shape Australian Golden Retriever history. From that litter came Ch Buffalo Woodbuff CD, a dog who became a legend in both the show ring and the breeding world.
When the original owners stepped away from breeding, Sandra continued the Buffalo legacy, ultimately producing 56 Golden Retriever champions with the support of her husband, Michael. Her judging career began in the early 1970s, and she is now licensed for All Breeds under Dogs Australia, FCI, and AKC. Her judging assignments have taken her across Australia and around the world, including New Zealand, the UK, Sweden, Malaysia, China, India, Japan, Finland, South Africa, Canada and the USA.
After more than forty years with Golden Retrievers, Whippets joined the Buffalo family, adding another chapter of success with multiple champions bred under the same respected prefix.
Photography has long been a natural extension of Sandra’s eye for structure, movement, and beauty — skills honed through decades of breeding, showing, and judging. Living in the Southern Highlands allowed her to explore the landscape through her lens during the COVID period, inspiring her to formalise her craft. She later completed a Certificate IV in Photo Imaging and Photography at TAFE.
Today, Buffalo Images reflects Sandra’s lifelong devotion to animals, nature, and visual storytelling. Her work captures the elegance of dogs, the serenity of the Australian landscape, and the quiet beauty found in everyday moments.
